This coming weekend we are headed north (and a bit east). Another pop up market is happening and we are psyched to say that we will be found in Minneapolis, Minnesota peddling shirts this weekend. Barrett will be debuting our Indian Summer collection just in time for the warm days and cool nights of early fall. I know for a fact there will be things such as bird dogs, bluegrass music, local libations and an amazing group of people that truly care about what they make. We are happy we will be joining the party. If you are in the great north, please swing on by for a visit.

For those of you who have walked up the three flights of stairs to our apartment, put up with our cat Sal, sorted through swatches on our coffee table, and tried on shirts in our bathroom, we will always have a special place for you in our hearts.

Our “live/work” space on Franklin Street has certainly served us well, but we could not be any happier to call our new space at 1932 Polk Street “home”.

We moved into our new loft space this past week and have been working feverishly to get it up to snuff. With the fortune of some good finds and a car load of old cypress planks lying on the side of the road, the place finally has some soul. Thanks to David Pierce at OHIO for letting us spend a morning running our planks through the belt sander and starting the process on what will eventually become some beautiful desks and tables.

For those who have bought a custom shirt before, or for anyone who might be interested in getting measured for a custom shirt, we invite you to come on by to check out or new digs and to dig through our swatch library. Also, if you would like to see our inventory of ready to wear shirts firsthand stop on by as well.

We are here Monday through Friday, 9AM till late, sporadically on the weekends and always if you want to set up an appointment. If you are the type who likes to plan ahead, we encourage you to give us a ring at 1-877-TSTITCH (878-4824) or shoot a line to contact@taylorstitch.com and set up a time to meet – that way we can guarantee we will be here. If you are walking through the neighborhood and don’t want to be bothered with scheduling, we like that too, please buzz up, and if we are here, we will be glad to have you.

Our new space is located at 1932 Polk Street between Pacific and Jackson. There is a wooden TS sign above our green door and a buzzer to the side.

We look forward to seeing you.

P.S. Swing by for a game of shuffleboard if you are trying to kill some time.

A few weeks ago we kicked off trade show season with a jaunt through New York City during what was a week filled with the most oppressive heat I have experienced in quite some time. It was a whirlwind between visiting old friends, getting work done and searching for pizza at 5 in the morning with the likes of a few nameless cowboys after a huge pillow fight in the lobby bar at the Jane Hotel.

The real reason we were there was for the evening we teamed up with our friends from Pierrepont Hicks, makers of fine ties, as well as the rogue belt maker from Tennessee, none other than Mr. Billy Moore. We set up shop in a really cool loft at the Ace Hotel and somehow they were happy to let us drag 16 quarts of Tennessee Moonshine and 2 kegs of Six Point Craft Ales up the elevator to keep our soiree lively for the evening.

We all showed off our wares and met a group of amazing people that I previously knew by their twitter handles better than their full names. It was great to firmly shake their hands, exchange stories and have an amazing time with them all. Twitter is pretty geeky in my humble opinion and I use it all the time since it plays a significant factor in what I do. In the end, I must say it makes it worth it when you can turn the 140 character spoutings into sharing life stories over dinner and drinks with people you never would have met otherwise.

Also, thanks to Kiya, Andrew and the rest of the guys at Self Edge for putting together a great afternoon of Rockabilly music at the Self Edge New York store.

more pictures after the jump…

Last weekend we were fortunate enough to be invited to set up shop at an equestrian event held at Sonoma Horse Park, California’s premier riding facility. Being that our city has been enshrouded in fog for the past month, a trip to sunny Petaluma was just what we needed. It also didn’t hurt knowing that we were going to be awash in a sea of lovely women decked out in riding gear jumping over 6 foot fences.

While we are primarily a men’s outfitter, one of the city’s best kept secrets is that our size 36 fits most women perfectly. All in a day’s work, we spent the afternoon taking photos of the event’s premier riders styled out in our custom and ready-t0-wear button ups.

In our next style run, the Indian Summer Collection, we will be producting a small run of our new size 34 for more petite women as well as a few more 36s – if for no reason other than to have an excuse to shoot some more beautiful women in riding britches on a warm afternoon.

We know why there was no sleep for you last night. It was worth it though.

Anyway, you overslept. You are running late and a certain someone made off with the shirt you had pressed for your meeting today. You know what that means. You have exactly 3 minutes to iron your shirt.

No Back Pleats

Luckily, your only clean shirt is a TS. You are not sure why, but in the back of your head, you feel like this is the easiest shirt you have ever ironed. It seems like it doesn’t take as much effort and it always comes out looking good.

The reason for this small ironing miracle is that we have taken all of the superfluous pleats out of our shirts. That is right. Completely did away with the one on the sleeve and the ones that run down the back of the shirt too. We never liked the pleats anyway. They made the shirt baggier, harder to iron, and ruined the it’s clean lines.

No Sleeve Pleats

So whats the big deal? We have created the most iron-friendly button up shirt in the world. Ok, it is not a non-iron, but who likes that awful picky oven baked fabric. Cotton is going to wrinkle as you wear it. Fact of the matter is it is a natural fiber. Plus, I don’t trust people who don’t have a slightly wrinkled shirt at the end of a work day. It shows me they haven’t done anything.

The French front is great on our spread collar dress shirt.

No sleeve pleats, no back pleats, no front pleats (on our spread collar dress shirt). Less ironing. Life is simpler and everyone is happier.

All we need now is to get the Beastie Boys in a photo shoot.

This is a pretty interesting old video if you have some excess time to kill. It gives you the opportunity to see San Francisco from a previous time period and the Embarcadero is a different beast. The video is a bit of a time commitment at 15 minutes but the random shots of cigarette butts pouring out of the ash tray make it all worth it. I guess this is their way of showing you it took a long time. The music and narration are also very dated, adding a bit of romanticism if that’s your thing. Enjoy…

“The Decanter,” a promotional film produced by Walter Landor and Associates in the 1960s, shows the start-to-finish process of several of Landor’s designs for Old Fitzgerald whiskey. Narrated by Walter himself, the film depicts creative teams illustrating and critiquing designs, industrial designers fabricating models, and research teams conducting focus groups and testing in Landor’s supermarket laboratory. All takes place on the famed Klamath ferryboat docked at San Francisco’s Pier 5, which housed Landor’s offices for some 20 years.

We love notebooks. We especially love those that fit cleanly in the back pocket of your jeans without you knowing it is there. You cannot underestimate those times when you have to scratch down some copy, sketch a concept or scribble some directions to buried treasure. When the Field Notes County Fair editions came out I snagged a 3 pack of the three states that represent where the members of Taylor Stitch hail from. This way we can look at the back of them and compare who has the coolest state representation as far as things like insect, fish and animal go. I am not going to lie though, I’m a little disappointed that Wisconsin and Maine share the same state insect (European Honey Bee) and Wisconsin and Pennsylvania share the same state fossil (Trilobite).

Either way you cut it, these things remind me of days of past at my own Cumberland County Fair in Maine. It brings back crazy memories of eating fried dough with powdered sugar, throwing darts at balloons in attempt to win a ridiculously small stuffed animal, riding the Gravitron while hoping nobody next to you puked and last but not least the demolition derby. What is better than people in old cars spray painted with racing stripes and numbers ramming each other until they light on fire and don’t run anymore? You tell me…

Last but not least I want to pay homage to none other than Aaron Draplin who is one of the amazing minds behind Field Notes and the now immortalized Field Notes Tumblr theme that so many people have used. I know this video has been out for a while but for those who have not seen it, please enjoy it in it’s entirety.
