Here are some weekend recommendations for your lovey dovey weekend. The first part of this may not be a celebratory part of Valentine’s Day but it is a massive part of the culture of the Bay Area. Take a drive South on Route 1 Saturday morning and check out the Mavericks Surf Contest that will start at 8:05 AM PST. The world’s foremost big wave experts have sat by waiting for the call that the contest is on (it has not happened in two years). Tomorrow they will be throwing themselves into the jaws of 40 plus foot waves. Just make sure to bring your binoculars since the action happens over a 1/2 mile offshore. You can follow the banter on twitter right here and you can watch the whole competition live tomorrow from their website if you can’t make it down!
The second recommendation of this weekend is more with the Valentine’s Day theme. If you live in San Francisco and have not been to this yet you have to go. What could be better than hitting strange people with a pillow and watching feathers go flying everywhere. There were over 5,000 people last year enjoying some good old fashioned fun and I’m sure there will be more this Sunday evening. Check out the official website here.
